Arsenal have reportedly set a £67.5 million (€80 million) price tag for defender Riccardo Calafiori amid interest from Real Madrid. Despite joining the Gunners last summer for approximately £38 million, Calafiori has struggled for regular first-team action, making just 16 starts this season, primarily at left-back and occasionally at center-back.

Real Madrid's Interest:

Real Madrid's interest in the Italian defender stems from their pursuit of defensive reinforcements. Calafiori's impactful performances during limited appearances have caught the attention of the Spanish giants. However, Arsenal's substantial valuation reflects their desire to retain Calafiori, suggesting they are not actively seeking his departure.

Arsenal's Defensive Depth:

Arsenal boasts a wealth of options in the left-back position. In a recent match against PSV Eindhoven, manager Mikel Arteta deployed Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko in midfield, and Kieran Tierney on the wing. Both Jurrien Timber and Calafiori were introduced from the bench, highlighting the competition for places.

Calafiori's Versatility:

One of the reasons Arsenal acquired Calafiori was his versatility. The 22-year-old Italian international has played both as a central defender and at left-back, and has previously featured as a left winger. This adaptability adds value to his role within the squad, even if it hasn't translated into consistent starting opportunities this season.

Potential Transfer Implications:

Arsenal's firm stance on Calafiori's valuation indicates their commitment to maintaining a robust defensive lineup. Unless an offer that Arsenal "can't refuse" materializes, it is anticipated that Calafiori will remain at the Emirates Stadium.

As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will meet Arsenal's valuation or explore alternative defensive targets.
